Stop The Senate From Considering Bill S. 1877

Please Call to Prevent Police State Parenting

Traditionally, the Supreme Court “has recognized that natural bonds of affection lead parents to act in the best interests of their children.” Whatever the parents decide, it is presumed to be what is best for the child, absent a showing that it is in fact abusive or negligent.

One of the greatest dangers of ratifying the Convention on the Rights of the Child is the “Best Interest of the Child” principle, which replaces this presumption with the idea that the government must decide what is best instead.

Now, the Senate is considering S. 1877, a bill that would also create an environment of hostility against parents and against the presumption of innocence.

Introduced by Sen. Bob Casey and Sen. Barbara Boxer, S. 1877 would make every adult a “mandatory reporter” of child abuse or neglect. This will destroy the presumption of innocence and lead to an increase in unfounded investigations of innocent families, taking resources from the truly abused children who need protection. Even worse, the bill would introduce the national government into family law, opening the door for much more federal intrusion into families.

If we do not want to find ourselves trying to raise children in a police state, we must oppose this dangerous legislation.

Then, if your Senator is on the Subcommittee on Children and Families, please call their office and urge them to oppose S. 1877. You might tell them something like the following:

“I am concerned that S. 1877, which is scheduled for a committee hearing today, will lead to privacy violations and allegations of abuse or neglect against innocent families because of mandatory reporting requirements for adults. Additionally, S. 1877 will greatly increase the federal government’s role in social services investigations, cluttering the system and making it harder to find children who are truly at risk.”

If you voted to cut Medicare and Medicaid, you must stop accepting taxpayer-funded healthcare for yourself and your family.

In April, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives has voted to cut Medicare and Medicaid. And now even Democrats on the so-called Super Committee are talking about cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.

Essentially Congress is telling senior citizens and the poor that tax cuts for billionaires and millionaires are more important that providing a health care safety net for our most vulnerable.

But did you know that members of Congress get great taxpayer funded healthcare? In fact, they get one of the best health care plans in the world.

It strikes us as the height of hypocrisy to be accepting government-provided, taxpayer-subsidized health insurance while denying seniors, the disabled and the poor the basic coverage that Medicare and Medicaid provide.

That’s why we’re circulating this petition demanding that members of Congress who voted to cut Medicare and Medicaid stop accepting taxpayer-subsidized health insurance for themselves. If they believe our most vulnerable citizens should buy insurance on the corporate, for-profit market, shouldn’t they do the same?

What a day to remember. Thousands upon thousands rallied in support for change and our voices were heard. Powers in numbers they say and the numbers were staggering. An estimated 35,000 people from all walks of life including organized contingents of workers, students, and other members of “the 99%” filled NYC to demand that our political system serve us all and not just the wealthy and powerful. This mobilization proved that the movement is on and very strong and is capable of overcoming ANY obstacle.

So for all of you Ocean County people who serve your own self serving agenda take notice. YOUR DAY IS COMING!

This includes and is not limited to Ocean County Family Court Judge James Blaney, Ocean County Family Court System, Ocean County DYFS, Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Marlene Lynch Ford, David Rudnitsky, Anna Luibil, James Hennig, Rosalyn Blau, Jason Steele, Edward Murachanian and all his little weasel sub-servants (You know who you are).
